Even though Montenegro has still not been fully discovered as aN Adventure travel destination, those who like hiking may know that this country is heaven for mountain and wilderness lovers.
With a lot of peaks over 2000 meters (6561 ft) high, Montenegro is a perfect destination for nature lovers. Almost half of the area of the Montenegro is over 1000 m (3280 ft) high. Durmitor is the highest mountain here with an elevation of 2523 m (8278 ft).
Durmitor National Park got its name after this magnificent mountain and because of its beauty and natural diversity it was inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1980. Durimitor is located in the northwest of Montenegro and it is known as a centre of Montenegrin mountain tourism. This mountain massif has around 50 peaks that rise above 2000 m (6561 ft).
What makes this mountain ever more impressive is 18 glacial lakes at heights of over 1500 m (4921 ft).
Bobotov Kuk 2523 m, (8728 ft) is the highest peak in the Durmitor mountain massif. It is also the most visited peak which hikers can ascend via four different routes. All approaches are so beautiful and the mountain can be climbed all year around but the ideal period is from June to September.
