mount elbert, the highest peak in the rocky mountains of north america, is located in san isabel national forest near the city of leadville in lake county, colorado. 

Mount Elbert (14,440 ft (4401.2 m)), a Colorado fourteener, is surrounded by many other fourteeners, and it's also very close to the Colorado Collegiate Peaks.
