MOUNT GUYOT IS THE FOURTH-HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN THE EASTERN UNITED STATES WITH AN ELEVATION OF 2,018 M (6,621 FT) ABOVE SEA LEVEL. IT IS LOCATED IN THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS, AT THE BORDER BETWEEN NORTH CAROLINA AND TENNESSEE.

The mountain is situated remotely, however, the Appalachian Trail passes its southern ridge within 300 m (1,000 ft) of the highest point. There are two peaks at the top of Guyot, with the southwestern peak being the true summit. Ramsey Cascades, one of the park's most spectacular waterfalls, formed a sandstone cliff at the bottom of Guyot's western slope.

A dense forest of Southern Appalachian spruce-fir trees covers the summit and upper slopes of Guyot. Human settlements never extended deep into the eastern Smoky Mountains, so the territories around Guyot and its peaks experienced significantly less human impact than the mountains in the western or central parts of the range. That is why reaching the summit require not only a long hike, but also a challenging trail through the dense natural forests.

THE FIVE HIGHEST PEAKS IN TENNESSEE:

  • Mount Guyot - 2,018 m (6,621 ft), in the eastern Great Smoky Mountains, Sevier County, Tennessee, United States.
  • Mount Le Conte - 2,010 m (6,593 ft), in the Great Smoky Mountains, Sevier County, Tennessee, United States.
  • Mount Chapman - 1,956 m (6,417 ft), in the Great Smoky Mountains, Sevier County, Tennessee, United States.
  • Mount Kephart - 1,895 m (6,217 ft), in the Great Smoky Mountains, Sevier County, Tennessee, United States.
  • Mount Mingus - 1,751 m (5,745 ft), in the Great Smoky Mountains, Sevier County, Tennessee, United States.
