GUADALUPE PEAK IS THE HIGHEST POINT IN TEXAS WITH ITS ELEVATION OF 2,667 M (8,751 FT) ABOVE SEA LEVEL. IT IS SITUATED IN THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS RANGE, 140 KM (90 MI) EAST OF El PASO AND ABOUT 80 KM (50 MI) SOUTHWEST OF CARLSBAND, IN NEW MEXICO.
The summit is crowned with a stunning stainless steel pyramid, which was constructed by American Airlines in 1958. Inscription on the plaque of its base says that the monument was put up to commemorate the he Butterfield Overland Mail, a stagecoach route that passed south of the mountain.
Guadalupe peak can be climbed at any time of the year, by a maintained stony trail, which is 6.8 km (4.25 mi) each way. The trail belongs to the network of hiking trails in the surrounding Guadalupe Mountains national park. The entrance fee to this national park costs $5.00 per person for adults 16 years of age and older, and is valid for 7 days.
